Restore Your Smile in San Antonio, TX with A Dental Bridge
Missing teeth can cause many problems. It can impact your speech patterns and bite, make chewing difficult, and, most importantly, can increase the risk of gum disease. A missing tooth can also negatively impact self-confidence – you only have one chance to make a good first impression! Stone Oak cosmetic dentist Dr. Jabbour offers dental bridges as part of our general dentistry options to replace missing teeth.
Bridges
A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress on your bite. A dental bridge is also known as a fixed partial denture. A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and “bridges the gap” where one or more teeth may have been. A dental bridge is usually made of solid porcelain, so it looks and acts like a natural tooth. The success of any bridge depends on its foundation — the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it’s very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
If you require a bridge, the procedure usually requires three office visits. At your first visit, you will be fitted for a temporary bridge by Dr. Jabbour. It is important to remember to be careful with the foods you eat while the temporary bridge is in place.
At your second visit, our San Antonio dentist will examine your gums to confirm they are healthy enough for the procedure. If needed, deep clean, known as a root and scaling procedure, may be required.
At the final visit, the bridge and crown will be cemented into place. Patients can typically resume normal activities immediately following the procedure. Some of our San Antonio patients may experience tooth sensitivity or minor discomfort for a few days following the procedure. If pain or discomfort lasts for more than two days, please contact our dental practice immediately.
