San Antonio / Stone Oak Aetna Dental Dentist

Aetna Dentists San Antonio / Stone Oak

Blanco Crossing Dental is a dentist that accepts Aetna – including Dental Direct, Aetna PPO, and the Participating Dental Network (PDN) — along with being dental providers for most other major insurance plans. If you have Aetna dental insurance through your employer or as an individual plan, our Stone Oak office in North San Antonio is here to help you get the most out of your dental benefits.

Aetna Dental Insurance Plans We Accept

Aetna Inc. — now part of the CVS Health family of companies — offers several types of dental coverage. As a participating Aetna network dentist, Blanco Crossing Dental works with the plans most commonly carried by patients in the San Antonio area.

Aetna Dental PPO / Participating Dental Network (PDN)

Aetna’s PPO plan is the most widely used dental insurance option for patients who receive healthcare insurance through their employer. Blanco Crossing Dental is an in network provider for Aetna Dental PPO. In Texas, the Aetna PPO plan is officially called the Participating Dental Network, or PDN — so if your Aetna insurance card or plan documents reference Aetna PDN, it is the same as the Aetna PPO in other states.

As a participating PDN provider, Blanco Crossing Dental has agreed to Aetna’s negotiated fee schedule for covered services. This means you pay the in-network rate rather than our standard fee — a direct cost savings on everything from routine cleanings to more involved restorative dental care. You can also choose to see an out-of-network dentist under the PPO plan, but your out-of-pocket costs will generally be higher.

Aetna Dental Direct DMO

While we are an Aetna Dentist, we don’t accept Aetna dental direct DMO. Aetna Dental Direct DMO. DMO plans typically feature lower monthly premiums than PPO plans, with fixed copays for covered services instead of percentage-based coinsurance. The tradeoff is a more restricted Aetna dentist network — DMO members must receive care from a participating DMO provider and generally need a referral to see a specialist.

Aetna Medicare Advantage Dental

Unfortunately, we DO NOT Accept Aetna Medicare Advantage Dental.

Many Medicare Advantage plans through Aetna include dental benefits as part of their coverage. If your Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan card references an HMO or PPO plan type, note that this refers to your medical plan — dental benefits under Medicare Advantage are typically accessed through the Aetna Dental PPO network.

What Does Aetna Dental Insurance Cover?

Aetna dental insurance plans — like dental insurance plan offerings from other major organizations — organize covered services into tiers. Your exact coverage percentages will depend on your specific plan benefits design, but here is a general overview of how Aetna dental coverage works and how it may apply to your Aetna plan:

Preventive Dental Care (Typically Covered at 100%)

Preventive care services are the cornerstone of good oral health and are covered at the highest rate under most Aetna plans, often at 100% with no deductible for in-network visits. Preventive care coverage is usually the most comprehensive service coverage available. This typically includes routine exams, professional cleanings, and diagnostic x-rays. Aetna generally covers two preventive visits per year. Staying current on preventive dental care is the most cost-effective way to protect your oral health and avoid more expensive treatment later.

Basic Restorative Services (Typically 70–80% Coverage)

Basic services such as tooth fillings, simple extractions, and periodontal treatment are generally covered at a lower percentage — usually 70–80% for in-network providers — with the patient responsible for the remaining coinsurance. If you have a broken tooth or a cavity that needs a filling, your Aetna dental insurance will typically cover a significant portion of the cost when you visit a participating network dentist like Blanco Crossing Dental.

Major Dental Services (Typically 50% Coverage)

Major dental health care services — including dental crowns, bridges, root canal therapy, oral surgery, dental surgery, and dental implants — are typically covered at around 50% under most Aetna plans, though this varies by plan. Most activities that require an oral surgeon fall into this category. Most Aetna plans include an annual maximum benefit that resets each calendar year. For services that exceed your annual maximum or require a significant patient share, we are happy to discuss your options and keep your dental care as affordable as possible.

Note: Some Aetna plans include a waiting period of 6 to 12 months before basic or major services are covered. If you are newly enrolled, call us and we can verify your effective date and waiting period status before scheduling any non-preventive treatment.

We work with Aetna insurance on a daily basis as a participating network dentist and can quickly verify your coverage, explain what procedures your plan covers, and give you a clear picture of your expected out-of-pocket costs before you commit to any treatment. We frequently work with employees who obtained their healthcare insurance through their employer, as well as individuals who carry their own Aetna dental plan.

Some dental procedures — like routine exams — may be fully covered depending on your specific plan. Others may be partially covered or subject to limitations. We can tell you exactly what your plan covers and what fees to expect when Aetna does not completely cover specific services.
